El Paso’s starting pitcher Austin Carden gave the Diablos a strong performance on the bump and the Diablos backed him up as they shutout the Laredo Lemurs 3-0. Carden went seven innings and scattered five hits while striking out five batters. The win is Carden’s second in as many starts.
Reliever Carlos Monasterios came in and recorded the save. Offensively, SS Maikol Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with an RBI and C Moises Montero added the other two RBI. For Laredo, six batters had one hit each.
Wichita 7, Sioux City 2
Wingnuts LF Jared McDonald and DH John Rodriguez combined for five RBI as Wichita beat the Sioux City Explorers 7-2. McDonald was 2-for-4 with a homerun and three RBI and Rodriguez was 2-for-4, added a homerun of his own. For the Explorers, CF Eliezer Mesa was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks from the leadoff spot.
No other Explorer had more than one hit. Wichita’s starter Anthony Capra picked up the win for working 6.0 innings on the bump. He struck out 11 batters and allowed just four hits and gave up two runs.
St Paul, Grand Prairie (Postponed –Rain)
Sunday’s game between the St. Paul Saints and the Grand Prairie AirHogs was postponed due to rain. It will be made up when the AirHogs return to St. Paul July18-21.
