DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Lincoln Saltdogs RHP Carlos Pimentel (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 11.
Pimentel made one start this week, and dominated the Sioux Falls Canaries on Wednesday night. Over eight innings, the Dominican Republic native allowed just one hit and two walks, striking out 12 in the process. Lincoln went on to win the game 1-0 on a walkoff sacrifice fly in the 11th inning.
On the season, Pimentel is now 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA over four starts. He has struck out 29 hitters and walked just seven over 25 innings.
2017 is Pimentel’s first season in Independent Baseball after a 10-year career in the affiliated ranks. He reached as far as the Class AAA level, pitching in the Pacific Coast League with the Round Rock (Tex.) Express (Texas Rangers) in 2013, Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs) in 2014 and 2015, and the El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres) in 2016. Pimentel enjoyed a career year in 2012, pitching with the Class AA Frisco (Tex.) Roughriders in the Rangers system. He compiled an 8-3 record with a 2.55 ERA over 35 appearances and eight starts.
