REDHAWKS WALK OFF WITH SAC FLY FROM DE LA CRUZ

Fargo-Moorhead 7, Winnipeg 6 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks picked up a 7-6 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes thanks to a walk-off sacrifice fly from DH Keury De La Cruz that scored LF Brennan Metzger.

Winnipeg tied the score at 6-6 in the top of the ninth inning as 3B Tommy Mendonca hit his second home run of the night, a two-run shot. But in the bottom of the frame, Metzger drew a lead-off walk, stole second, took third on an error and scored the game winning run when De La Cruz flew out to center.

Metzger was a part of the first three batters in the RedHawks’ order that combined for six hits and four runs scored in the game. Lead-off man RF Tim Colwell had a team-high three hits and he scored twice. 2B Maikol Gonzalez added a pair of RBIs as he went 1-for-3 and Metzger went 2-for-4 with a run. In the top of the seventh, Colwell and Metzger scored two crucial runs that gave RedHawks a two-run lead.

 

Chicago 5, Cleburne 4 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs survived a four-run seventh inning from the Cleburne Railroaders to hold on for a 5-4 win.

The Dogs got on the board in the first as CF Kenny Wilson (2-for-3) touched home as 1B/3B Trey Vavra bounced out. 2B Edwin Arroyo added to the lead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third, his second dinger of the year. In the top of the seventh, the Railroaders tied the score with a four-run rally. RF Cameron Monger plated the first run with a sac fly, two runs scored as SS Angel Rosa reached on an error and then he scored as C Blake Grant-Parks doubled.

In the bottom of the eighth, 1B Dalton Blaser scored what turned out to be the game-winning run on a wild pitch.

 

Texas 6, Kansas City 5 – Box Score

A five-run sixth inning propelled the Texas AirHogs to a 6-5 win against the Kansas City T-Bones on Saturday night.

Kansas City led 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth but a pair of big hits quickly changed that. C Luan Chenchen (2-for-3) singled home 2B Casio Grider (2-for-4) and 3B Chen Chen to the score and two batters later RF Stewart Ijames (2-for-5) blasted a three-run home to give the home team the lead for good. SS Yang Jin also added a 2-for-4 performance for the AirHogs.

For the T-Bones, 3B Mason Davis went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and CF Keith Curcio went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

 

 

Wichita 9, Sioux City 5 – Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts turned one-run deficit into a comfortable 9-5 win against the Sioux City Explorers with a five-run ninth.

In the top of the ninth, CF Zach Nehrir (2-for-4) scored the first run of the rally as DH Tony Thomas reached on an error. In the next at-bat, C John Nester singled to plate both Thomas and 3B Abel Nieves. Later in the inning, LF Nick Rotola (2-for-5) plated Nester and 1B Graylin Derke (3-for-4) with a single that capped off the rally.

For the Explorers, 3B Jose Sermo went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored including his ninth home run of the year. CF Jay Austin added two hits including his third homer of the season.

 

St. Paul 3, Lincoln 1 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints gave up a run in the very first at-bat of the game but didn’t give up another the rest of the way as they earned a 3-1 win against the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Lincoln’s 3B Christian Ibarra hit a lead-off home run in the top of the first for his team’s only run and one of the Saltdogs’ two hits in the game. St. Paul starting pitcher Chris Nunn settled in after the rocky start and picked up the win for throwing six innings, giving up two hits and striking out five batters. Reliever Mike Devine pitcher the seventh and eighth without allow a hit and Reliever Zack Jones nabbed his first save of the year with a perfect ninth.

Offensively, SS Anthony Phillips had an RBI single in the second and LF Burt Reynolds (2-for-4) hit a two-run home run in the third to provide more than enough run support. The blast was the 10th of the year for Reynolds.

 

Sioux Falls 7, Gary SouthShore 5 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries over came an early four run deficit to claim a 7-5 win against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

The RailCats took the lead in the top of the third a four-run rally that featured an RBI double from 2B Cole Fabio (2-for-4), a sac fly from 3B Garrett Copeland and a single from DH Randy Santiesteban that scored Copeland two batters later.

But the Canaries started to pull back into the game in the fourth when RF Chris Grayson (4-for-4) hit a solo home run, his seventh of the year. LF Jordan Smith added a sac fly in the fifth and C Maxx Garrett tied things up in the sixth with a two-run home run.

An error allowed the RailCats to plate another run in the seventh but the Canaries took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning when 1B David Bergin and Grayson had back-to-back RBI base hits.
