WINGNUTS RIDE SIX-RUN EIGHTH TO VICTORY

Wichita 13, Sioux Falls 10 – Box

The Canaries held a 10-7 lead in the eighth before the Wingnuts exploded for six runs in the bottom half of the inning en route to a 13-10 victory. The big play of the inning was a two-run home run from C Martin Medina. The blast was his fifth of the year and propelled the Wingnuts to a 13-10 lead. 1B Matt Chavez drove in two runs in the win and now has 63 RBIs on the season. Medina finished with three hits, two runs scored and three RBIs in the win. RHP James Campbell allowed two runs in an inning of relief, but still picked up his second win of the year. RHP Seth Harvey earned the save in the win.

St Paul 6, Fargo-Moorhead 5 – Box

CF Kes Carter was the hero on Friday night, hitting a walk-off solo home run to propel the Saints to a 6-5 victory over the Redhawks. The homer was his eighth of the year as the Saints won their 31st game of the year. SS Jon Kristoffersen also homered in the win, hitting his first long ball of the season. RF K.D. Kang hit his fifth home run of the year in the loss and finished the game 1-4 with two RBIs. Carter was 2-4 with a run scored and a RBI in the win. The two teams made it a 5-5 game in the fourth, but neither team scored again until Carter’s walk-off blast in the ninth. RHP Vinny Nittoli got the victory, pitching two scoreless innings for his second win of the year.

Texas 8, Sioux City 4 – Box

The Airhogs won the first game of their three-game series against the Explorers by winning 8-4 on Friday night. A three-run fifth inning propelled the Airhogs to a 6-4 lead which they would not relinquish. First, RF Denis Phipps hit a two-run home run, his fifth of the year and a third run was scored on a RBI single. The Airhogs added two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings en route to an 8-4 win. Phipps was 2-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the win. SS Beamer Weems hit his fourth home run of the year in the win. RHP Jared Mortensen went six innings allowing four runs (no earned) while striking out four batters. RHP Luis De La Cruz picked up the one-out save to earn his tenth save of the year.

Gary Southshore 8, Salina 6 – Box

The Railcats rode a four-run sixth inning to the win on Friday night. LF Reggie Wilson got the ball rolling with a two-run double in the inning to make it a 4-3 Gary lead. Then, 1B Frank Martinez provided a two-run single to extend the lead to three runs. The Railcats added two runs in the seventh inning as they went on to win 8-6. 3B Jordan Caillouet went 2-4 with two runs scored in the loss. RHP Charle Rosario went seven innings allowing four runs on eight hits to pick up the win. Rosario (7-4) struck out four batters in the victory.

Winnipeg 16, Kansas City 1 – Box

The Goldeyes topped the T-Bones for their 30th win of the season, picking up their fifth straight win on Friday night. Two players hit home runs in the victory, including SS Andrew Sohn who connected on a two-run blast. The home run was his sixth of the year. 2B Mason Katz also homered in the victory, blasting his eighth long ball of the season. 1B Shawn Pleffner was 4-5 with a run scored in the win and drove in six runs. CF Reggie Abercrombie picked up three RBIs and also scored twice for the Goldeyes. LHP Zack Dodson pitched seven innings of one-run ball for the win. Dodson (4-3) allowed a run on three hits and struck out four batters. 1B Kevin Keyes hit his 14th home run of the year in the loss.

Lincoln 7, Cleburne 1 – Box

The Saltdogs started their three-game series with the Railroaders by picking up a 7-1 victory for their fourth consecutive win. Three players hit home runs in the victory, including a three-run blast from RF Randolph Oduber which extended the Saltdogs lead to 6-1. LF Brandon Jacobs also homered in the game, picking up his ninth long ball of the season. C Dashenko Ricardo added a solo blast in the eighth to make it a 7-1 lead. Jacobs picked up two RBIs and scored twice in the victory. LHP Carlos Pimentel picked up the win in his first start of the year for the Saltdogs. The win was his sixth of the season as he went five shutout innings and struck out five batters. RF Derrick Pyles was 2-4 with the lone RBI for the Railroaders in the loss.
