AA ALUM SCHERZER TO START MLB ALL-STAR GAME

RHP Max Scherzer, who spent part of the 2007 season in the American Association, will start on the mound for the National League in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game to be held Tuesday night in Miami.

Scherzer, who pitches for the Washington Nationals, is 10-5 with a 2.10 ERA and 173 strikeouts over 128.1 innings thus far in 2017. This is Scherzer’s fifth consecutive All-Star selection, and third in the National League. He previously started the 2013 All-Star Game for the American League during his tenure with the Detroit Tigers, making him the fifth player to start the game for both leagues.

The game will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time on FOX.

Scherzer made three starts for the American Association’s Fort Worth Cats in 2007, going 1-0 with an 0.56 ERA. Over 16 innings, he struck out 25 and walked just four.
