ALEN HITS WALK OFF HOME RUN FOR WINNIPEG

Winnipeg 3, Sioux Falls 2 – Box

After giving up two runs in the top of the first inning, Winnipeg came back in dramatic fashion against Sioux Falls, putting up three runs in the bottom of the ninth to get the win. 1B Casey Haerther scored the first run of the inning due to an error by Sioux Falls, RF Tillman Pugh advanced to first on the play. After seeing just one pitch, C Luis Alen sent the ball into the stands to bring home the tying and winning runs. The Alen home run gave the victory to reliever Jailen Peguero. It was Alen’s fifth long ball of the season.

Sioux Falls kicked the game off with a leadoff home run from LF Chris Grayson. DH Brian Humphries would bring home the second run. Humphries went 3-4 with an RBI.

Kansas City 7, Lincoln 6 – Box

With one swing of the bat LF Adam Bailey changed the game for Kansas City. Lincoln had struck first and put up five runs before Bailey sent one deep to bring home three runs and take back the momentum in the top of the eighth inning. Bailey finished the game 1-2 with three RBI and two walks. That set the table for a four run ninth inning and the win for Kansas City. The final rally was capped by 1B Jake Blackwood, who’s two run single broke a tie game. Blackwood went 2-4 with a run and two RBI. Relievers Michael Nannini and Aaron Baker earned the win and the save respectively.

DH CJ Ziegler led the way for Lincoln. He finished 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. LF Tucker White went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Wichita 7, Grand Prairie 5 – Box

Despite a late inning push from the AirHogs, the Wingnuts were able to hang on get the victory, in part to newly acquired 3B Andy LaRoche. LaRoche went 1-3 with a run scored and two RBI. SS Luis Hernandez also had a strong day at the plate, reaching base all three times he came to bat and had three RBI on top of that. Starter Eddie Medina pitched 7.1 solid innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out three. Daniel Bennett struck out one in the ninth to get the save.

Down by five, the AirHogs attempted to come back in the eighth inning, but couldn’t get enough runs. They were led by RF Ronnie Richardson, who’s two run single provided a spark. Richardson finished the game 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Sioux City 8, St. Paul 3 – Box

LF Tim Colwell exploded at the plate today for Sioux City. Colwell reached on all four of his plate appearances and tied St. Paul by himself, scoring three runs in the game. He also had an RBI. 2B Ryan Court also swung a hot bat, going 3-4 and highlighting his day with a two run home run. Court also reached base four times due to a three hits and a walk. Reliever Rob Wort earned an impressive victory, striking out four batters in just 2.2 innings of work.

Leadoff hitter Alonzo Harris was all over the basepaths for the Saints. He finished the game 2-5 with two runs and two stolen bases. Harris now has 31 steals on the season.

Laredo 5, Amarillo 4 – Box

After surrendering the game tying run in the top of the ninth inning, Laredo finished the game in dramatic fashion. RF Kevin Taylor hit a walkoff single, which brought home 3B Juan Silverio. Taylor finished the game 3-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Silverio went 1-3 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. Silverio also walked and stole a base. Reliever John Brebbia earned the victory. DH Denis Phipps also hit a home run for Laredo. It was his ninth of the season.

SS Juan Martinez got the Thunderheads on the board first with a home run in the first inning. He finished the game 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. 2B Geraldo Valentin went 2-4 with two runs scored.

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Gary Southshore 4 – Box

In a long, back and forth affair, Fargo-Moorhead finally walked off and walked away with a victory. Gary appeared to have a win in hand after putting up two runs in the top of the 12th, but RF Joe Dunigan singled home CF Drew Muren to win the game and be the hero. Murren finished 3-5 with two runs and an RBI. Muren also had two doubles in the game. SS Zac Penprase went 2-6 with two runs scored. Reliever Benji Waite earned the win for Fargo-Moorhead.

Gary was led by the longball. CF Brennen Metzger and LF Adam Taylor both went yard. Taylor finished 2-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Rockland 4, Joplin 3 – Box

This interleague matchup was highlighted by the bullpens, which combined to pitch 8.2 innings and neither team’s bullpen gave up a run. Rockland needed five pitchers to complete four innings and was topped with the performance from closer Leo Sanz, who struck out two and pitched a perfect ninth inning to get the save. The Rockland offense was led by C Joe Maloney who had a two run double and finished 1-3 with two RBI. SS Junior Arrojo was all over the place, going 1-4 with two runs and two stolen bases.

The strongest performance for Joplin was reliever Carlos Fuentes, who pitched 2.2 innings and struck out four. 2B Oscar Luna went 2-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.
