ALEN NAMED AMERICAN ASSOCIATION PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes catcher Luis Alen (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending June 8.

Alen was 12-for-24 on the week, collecting hits in all seven Goldeyes contests. He logged five two-hit games over the week, and three multi-RBI games. The tear began on Monday, June 2, when Alen went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a 3-2 win at the Sioux Falls Canaries. In a doubleheader two days later, Alen was 1-for-1 in the first game and 1-for-3 in the nightcap. In the opener of the twinbill, Alen drew two walks and collected two RBIs. The Goldeyes swept the Canaries, 7-1 and 3-0.

In the series finale at Sioux Falls, Alen was 2-for-5 with two doubles in an 8-3 win. The Goldeyes then embarked on a trip to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, and Alen brought his hot bat to North Dakota. Alen went 2-for-4 in all three games against Fargo-Moorhead, collecting two RBIs in Friday’s series opener. Sunday afternoon’s series finale saw the Goldeyes take a 7-4 win and Alen pick up a week-high three runs batted in.

Alen raised his average from .244 to .333 over the course of the week, and now sits at 13 RBIs on the season. The resident of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela has seven doubles and has only struck out five times in 22 games. Alen is in his fifth season with Winnipeg, and has hit over .300 in his past three campaigns.

Alen and the Goldeyes open a three-game home series with the Grand Prairie AirHogs tomorrow evening, Tuesday June 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Shaw Park in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba.
