BARNES TWIRLS A GEM FOR T-BONES

Kansas City 6, Gary SouthShore 1Box Score

Kansas City starting pitcher Casey Barnes twirled a gem on the mound as he and the T-Bones dismissed the Gary SouthShore RailCats 6-1.

Barnes gave up a single in the top of the first and didn’t allow another hit until the top of the ninth inning. He ended up going the distance for the T-Bones and allowed just one run on three hits. Barnes issued just two walks and struck out six batters on the night. Offensively, Kansas City took the lead in the first inning and built a 6-0 lead for Barnes in the first eight innings.

Leadoff man 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored and RF Ray Sadler added a pair of RBI on a 2-for-4 night at the plate.

 

Winnipeg 4, Sioux Falls 3  Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes took an early lead and held off a later charge by the Sioux Falls Canaries as they claimed a 4-3 win.

Winnipeg took the lead in the second inning behind an RBI double from DH Josh Mazzola and an RBI single from C Luis Alen in back-to-back at bats. Mazzola and Alen each had two RBI on the night. The Canaries put runs on the board in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings but couldn’t complete the comeback.  The first two runs scored by the Canaries came on sacrifice flies and the third came on a fielder’s choice.

CF Chris Valencia had a team-high two hits for the Canaries. For the Goldeyes, Mazzola had three hits and Alen along with CF Reggie Abercrombie were among the four Winnipeg batters to have two hits.

 

Wichita 4, Grand Prairie 1Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts put up four quick runs in the first three innings and never trailed on their way to a 3-1 win over the Grand Prairie AirHogs.

In the first inning, CF Brent Clevlen singled home LF Jack Luce and in the second C Chris McMurray scored on a wild pitch. In the third inning, 1B David Espinosa doubled home a pair of runs to put Wichita ahead 4-0. Luce and Clevlen both went 3-for-4 with an RBI on the night. The AirHogs got on the board in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI from 2B Alex Nunez but that was the only run Grand Prairie would score.

Starting pitcher Tim Brown picked up the win for tossing six innings and allowing one unearned run on eight hits. In the losing effort, AirHogs starting pitcher Ryan Searle threw a complete game.

 

Lincoln 8, Sioux City 7Box Score

It was a shootout until the very end in Sioux City as the Lincoln Saltdogs edged the Explorers 8-7.

Lincoln took the lead early with a monster five-run first inning behind a three-run home run from RF Brian Joynt and then a two-run blast from 3B Omar Luna. That lead held until the seventh inning when the Explorers first scored. Joynt added another solo shot in the in the eighth but Sioux City responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame as SS Tommy Mendonca doubled home three runs and then scored on the next play.

In the ninth, 2B Luis Nunez hit a two-run home run to put the Saltdogs in front by three runs. That proved to be just enough as the Exlporers tallied two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

 

New Jersey 6, St. Paul 1Box Score

The New Jersey Jackals exploded for five unanswered runs in the eighth and ninth innings to beat the St. Paul Saints 6-1.

The game was tied 1-1 heading into the final two frames before the Jackals blew the game open. Jackals CF Alonzo Harris went 3-for-5 with two RBI and RF Felix Sanchez also went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. LF Joe Dunigan had just one hit in the game but it was a two-run home run in the eighth inning. For the Saints, DH Jake Taylor had the team’s lone RBI but St. Paul had just three hits in the game.

Starting pitcher Isaac Pavlik worked eight innings and allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out four batters.

 

Fargo-Moorhead at Trois-Rivieres – Postponed

The second game of the series between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the Trois-Rivieres Aigles has been postponed due to weather conditions. The game will be made up Sunday as a part of a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

 

Laredo at Amarillo – Postponed

The game between the Laredo Lemurs and the Amarillo Sox was suspended due to rain and field conditions for the second night in a row. The two teams will play a doubleheader Sunday starting at 5:00 p.m. Central Time.
