BRAVES CALL ON HINSON

BRAVES CALL ON HINSON

DURHAM, NC – Ryan Hinson (pictured) was pulled from his scheduled start last night against Kansas City. No, Hinson was not injured. And no, the Wingnuts were not benching the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month from June. Rather, the 6’3” Wichita left-hander received word that the Atlanta Braves had purchased his contract.

Prior to Thursday night, Hinson had made 51 starts for the Wingnuts from 2011-2013, compiling a 27-15 record. This season has been Hinson’s best with Wichita. In 10 starts, Hinson pitched to a 7-2 record with two complete games and one shutout. He also leaves the American Association with the league’s best ERA (1.53).

Hinson was originally a member of the San Diego Padres’ organization, after being drafted by them in the 10th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft. The Padres selected Hinson out of Clemson University and sent him to the short-season Midwest League. Hinson reached High-A Lake Elsinore later that season, but returned to short-season Eugene in 2010 before signing with Wichita the following year. Atlanta is expected to send Hinson to High-A Lynchburg in the Carolina League.
