CANARIES JUST .5 GAMES OUT OF PLAYOFFS WITH WIN

Sioux Falls 5, Fargo-Moorhead 4 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries (22-20) pulled to within a half game of second place – and a playoff spot – with a 5-4 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Friday night at home.

The Canaries took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as CF Logan Landon (3-for-4) singled to plate SS Andrew Ely and RF Clint Coulter singled home 2B Alay Lago. The RedHawks tied the score in the top of the third as 1B Correlle Prime (2-for-5) singled home both LF Brennan Metzger and SS b (3-for-4). The Canaries moved back in front in the sixth when LF Ryan Brett doubled to score DH Jabari Henry and C Roy Morales and then scored himself with 1B Grant Kay singled.

The RedHawks responded in the next inning as CF Forrestt Allday (2-for-4) singled home a run and Metzger scored on a balk to pull within one run but that proved to be the final run of the game.

Starting pitcher Jake Zokan was tabbed as the winner after throwing 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four batters. Reliever Keaton Steel earned the save.

 

St. Paul 6, Chicago 3 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth to topple the Chicago Dogs 6-3 Friday night at Impact Field.

The Dogs built a 3-0 lead as Harrison Smith singled home SS Tyler Ladendorf in the second and, in the fifth, C Logan Moore hit a solo shot and Ladendorf scored for a second time as DH Blake Allemand (2-for-4) singled to center. In the eighth, the Saints found the scoreboard as DH Troy Alexander (2-for-4) doubled home RF Max Murphy (2-for-3). In the ninth, 2B Josh Allen hit a three-run homer and two outs later, Alexander hit a two-run shot to put the Saints comfortably in front.

For the Dogs, CF Michael Crouse and 3B Joey Terdoslavich each had a pair of hits.

Reliever Brian Glowicki pitched the eighth with a pair of strikeouts to earn the win and closer Jameson McGrane worked the ninth to pick up his league leading 13th save of the year.

 

Winnipeg 2, Milwaukee 1 – Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes extended their lead in the standings with a 2-1 win against the Milwaukee Milkmen Friday night at Franklin Field.

The Goldeyes (25-17) were playing as the home team despite playing in Milwaukee and scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning. 1B Kyle Martin hit a solo home run for the first run of the game and CF Jonathan Moroney (2-for-4) scored an unearned run later in the inning. The Milkmen’s only run came in the top of the fourth when LF Adam Walker hit a solo shot.

Starting pitcher Brandon Cumpton improved to 2-1 on the year as he went 7.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out six batters. Reliever Victor Capellan earned the save with two Ks in the ninth.
