CANARIES MOVE INTO PLAYOFF SPOT WITH BIG WIN

Sioux Falls 12, St. Paul 4 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries moved into second place in the standings on Friday night with a 12-4 win against the St. Paul Saints.

The Canaries got started right away with three runs in the top of the first inning as 2B Alay Lago (2-for-5) hit an RBI fielder’s choice and scored with SS Andrew Ely when C Roy Morales (4-for-4) singled later in the inning. Though the Saints scored two runs in the third, the Canaries never trailed as Morales hit a lead-off homer in the fourth and RF Clint Coulter added an RBI single.

Sioux Falls added four more runs in the eighth as 3B Damek Tomscha tripled home a pair of runs and Lago hit a two-run homer in the next at-bat. LF Mike Hart scored the final run of the day in the ninth on a wild pitch.

The Saints had 12 hits including three from 2B Mikey Reynolds and two each from SS Nate Samson and 2B/P Drew Stankiewicz. RF Max Murphy added a pair of RBIs.

Starting pitcher Tyler Herron earned his league-best seventh win of the year after working 5.1 innings and allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out five.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 13, Winnipeg 1 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks continued their run as the hottest team in the American Association with a 13-1 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Newman Outdoor Field on Friday night.

The RedHawks, who amassed 18 hits in the game, have now won five games in a row – seven of their last 10 – and are just 3.5 games out of a playoff spot with 11 games to play. Nine different RedHawks recorded hits in the game including C Dylan Kelly who went 5-for-6 with four RBIs including a three-run home run. 3B Leobaldo Pina and RF Alex Boxwell each added three hits and 1B Correlle Prime went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

The RedHawks pitching staff held the Goldeyes to just two hits in the game including a solo home run from 1B Kyle Martin, the team’s only run. Starter Bradin Hagens earned the win for throwing six innings and giving up one hit while striking out six batters.

Winnipeg now sits a half game behind the Sioux Falls Canaries for second place and the final playoff spot.

 

Milwaukee 3, Chicago 1 – Box Score

The Milwaukee Milkmen topped the Chicago Dogs 3-1 on Friday night at Impact Field to extend their lead at the top of the standings to 2.5 games.

The Milkmen have now won seven of their last 10 games.

Milwaukee scored first in the top of the third inning when 3B Logan Trowbridge scored as 1B David Washington bounced out. In the fifth, LF Adam Brett Walker II homered for the fourth consecutive game, this time it was a two-run shot that gave his team a 3-0 lead. Walker II now has 18 home runs in 2020. The Dogs’ only run came in the bottom of the eighth when 1B K.C. Hobson hit a solo homer.

DH Jose Sermo was the only batter for either team to have more than one hit as he went 2-for-4.

Starting pitcher Tim Dillard picked up the win as he went 5.1 innings without allowing a run on three hits and a pair of strikeouts. Closer Peyton Gray nabbed his 11th save of the year by working the ninth.
