COX HITS FOR CYCLE IN WICHITA WIN

Wichita 15, Sioux Falls 5- Box

The Wingnuts slugged their way past the Canaries by a 15-5 score at Lawrence Dumont Stadium. 3B Zack Cox had a huge day for the Wingnuts, hitting for the cycle and going 4-for-5 with five RBI. Cox began with an RBI double in the third, part of a two-run inning for the Wingnuts. Wichita scored again in the fifth, when 2B Christian Stringer hit an RBI single and scored himself on a two-run home run by Cox. Four more runs scored in the sixth, including a two-RBI triple from Cox, leaving him just a single shy of the cycle. Cox had the opportunity to lead off the eighth inning, and immediately collected a single to complete the cycle. That single would set the table for a six-run frame to put the game out of reach. C Martin Medina drove in two on a two-RBI triple, and SS Leo Vargas also drove home a pair on a two-RBI double. Vargas joined Cox with a 4-for-5 game.

With eight strikeouts in six shutout innings, RHP Jon Link picked up the win for the Wingnuts.

For Sioux Falls, LF Cameron Monger hit his fifth home run of the season.

Sioux City 15, Texas 1- Box

With 10 runs in the first two innings, the Explorers cruised past the AirHogs 15-1. 2B Jarek Cunningham hit an RBI double to open the scoring in the first, and a nine-run second followed. C Matt Koch drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk, and LF Derrick Robinson followed with a grand slam to push the lead to 6-0. Four more runs scored before the inning ended. Five more runs came across in the eighth, a pair of them on a two-RBI double by Cunningham. Four Explorers had days with three or more hits. SS Nate Samson was 4-for-4, while Cunningham, CF Tim Colwell and RF Ino Patron had three apiece.

RHP Graham Johnson backed up his offense with a complete game on the mound. He scattered five hits, allowing one run and striking out three, en route to earning the win.

For Texas, 3B Cory Morales drove in the lone run on a sacrifice fly.

Winnipeg 23, Gary SouthShore 4- Box

The Goldeyes plated 23 runs on 25 hits in a 23-4 thrashing of the RailCats. Winnipeg scored in seven of their eight offensive innings, highlighted by an eight-run fifth. LF Adam Heisler led off with a home run in the bottom of the first, and three more runs came across in the frame. CF Reggie Abercrombie hit a two-run blast in the second to push the lead to 6-3, a lead that would swell to 8-3 by the end of the third. DH David Rohm continued the homer parade with a two-run blast in the fourth, and one more run would score later in the inning. The lead increased to 19-3 after the eight-run fifth. 1B Jacob Rogers had a two-run blast in the inning, and RF Josh Romanski added a three-run shot. C Carlton Tanabe hit the last home run for Winnipeg, a two-run homer in the eighth. Rogers and Tanabe each had four hits, leading the way for Winnipeg.

RHP Mikey O’Brien struck out four in seven innings, picking up the win for the Goldeyes.

For Gary SouthShore, SS Jarred Mederos was 2-for-4 with a double.
