GOLDEYE ARMS COMBINE FOR TWO-HIT SHUTOUT

Winnipeg 14, Sioux Falls 0Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes pitching staff worked a two-hit shutout and their teammates’ bats came through as they dismantled the Sioux Falls Canaries 14-0.

Starting pitcher Nick Hernandez was the winner on the mound as he went seven innings and allowed just two hits and struck out six batters. Reliever Kaohi Downing worked a hitless eighth and reliever Taylor Bratton did the same in the ninth to preserve the shutout. Offensively, ten different Goldeyes had hits and they were led by RF Josh Mazzola who went 4-for-5 on the night with three home runs, six RBI and four runs scored.

Both 3B JakE Blackwood and SS Tyler Kuhn had three hits for the Goldeyes and Blackwood added a pair of RBI. LF Donnie Webb also had a strong night as he went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

 

Gary SouthShore 6, Kansas City 5 Final/12 InningsBox Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats put together a monster four-run rally to tie up the ballgame in the top of the ninth and went on to beat the Kansas City T-Bones 6-5 in 12 innings.

CF Drew Muren came up with his first hit of the game in the top of the ninth to score the first run of the rally. He scored in the next at bat when SS Daniel Pulfer doubled home a pair of runs and then Pulfer scored the game-tying run on a single from RF Drew Martinez. Martinez scored the eventual game-winner in the top of the 12th on a single from DH Josh Romanski.

Martinez went 4-for-6 on the night and Pulfer ended up going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. C Ryan Babineau added three hits and an RBI. For the T-Bones, CF Robby Kuzdale went 3-for-5 and RF Ray Sadler went 2-for-5.

 

Sioux City 7, Lincoln 1Box Score

With four runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Sioux City Explorers took the lead and never looked back on their way to a 7-1 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs.

CF Tim Colwell doubled in the first run of the game and then scored when 3B Amos Ramon cleared the bases with a three-RBI double later in the inning. Colwell led the team with three hits in four at bats and had two RBI. Ramon’s three RBI were a game-high. LF Omar Mesa added a pair of hits going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Starting pitcher Patrick Johnson picked up the win as he allowed just three hits and one run in 7.1 innings of work. Johnson also struck out seven batters. The Saltdogs had just three hits on the night and 2B Luis Nunez had the team’s lone RBI.

 

Laredo 5, Amarillo 2 – Game 1/7 InningsBox Score

The Laredo Lemurs never trailed in the first game of their Sunday doubleheader with the Amarillo Sox as they picked up a 5-2 win.

Starting pitcher Cesar Carrillo went the distance on the mound for the Lemurs and allowed just two runs on four hits. Both of those runs and two of the hits were given up in the bottom of the seventh inning. At the plate for Laredo, CF Nick Van Stratten went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and both 2B Travis Denker and 1B John Alonso went 2-for-4 on the night.

RF Denis Phipps finished the night with three RBI including a two-run home run in the top of the seventh. For the Sox, 2B Geraldo Valentin had two of the team’s four hits.

 

Laredo 6, Amarillo 4 – Game 2/7 InningsBox Score

The Laredo Lemurs took another early lead in the second game of their doubleheader and, just like in the first game, they never trailed as they finished off the sweep of the twin bill with a 6-4 win over the Amarillo Sox.

Laredo put up five runs in the second inning and another run in the third to move ahead 6-2. The Sox scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and in sixth but couldn’t draw any closer. CF Nick Van Stratten had a team-high three RBI and RF Denis Phipps added a pair of RBI. LF J.P. Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Sox out-hit the Lemurs 8-4 in the game and they were led by SS Ransom LaLonde who went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
