Gary SouthShore 8, Winnipeg 7 – 11 Innings — Box Score
CF Chase Harris scored the game-winning run for the Gary SouthShore RailCats in the top of the 11th inning to give his team an 8-7 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Winnipeg LF Josh Romanski tied the game at 7-7 with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth and gave remained level until the top of the 11th. Harris doubled with one away in the 11th and then stole third before DH Cameron Newell lifted a sac fly to center field to score the decisive run. For the game, both RF Anthony Checky, Jr. and 1B Frank Martinez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
For the Goldeyes, DH David Bergin and C Mason Katz also left the yard on the day and Bergin, as well as Romanski, were two of four batters to have two-hit games. The start of the game was delayed one hour and 14 minutes by rain.
Sioux Falls 9, Fargo-Moorhead 8 – 10 Innings — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries outlasted the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 9-8 in 10 innings thanks to an RBI single from LF Ty Morrison in the top of the 10th.
The RedHawks rallied out of an 8-2 hole with a six-run eighth inning that included a two-run home run from DH Chris Grayson and a three-run triple from 1B Charlie Valerio, who went 2-for-4 on the day. The score stayed level at 8-8 through the ninth, forcing an extra frame. In the top of the 10th, 2B Brett Marr drew a lead-off walk and moved to second after a single from SS Blake Schmit. After two strikeouts, Morrison singled to score Marr for the game-winning run. Morrison went 4-for-5 in the game.
For the Canaries, 1B Chris Jacobs went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run as a part of a five-run second inning.
Wichita 7, Texas 6 — Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts erased an early deficit with a six-run sixth inning and claimed a 7-6 win against the Texas AirHogs.
The Wingnuts were trailing 5-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth when they flipped the game with a huge inning. 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt scored the first run of the rally on a single from RF Richard Prigatano. Leo Vargas singled home 1B Matt Chavez in the next at-bat and after a foul pop out, 2B Christian Stringer singled to plate C Martin Medina. DH Brent Clevlen closed out the rally with a bases-clearing, three-run double.
Texas LF Charley Thurber hit his second homer of the day in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to one but the Wingnuts kept the AirHogs off the board from there.
Kansas City 4, Lincoln 3 — Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones took the third game of their three-game set with the Lincoln Saltdogs 4-3 to win the series.
Lincoln struck first with a solo home run from 3B Christian Ibarra to lead off the bottom of the first but the T-Bones battled back in the second with a two-run shot from RF Chantz Mack. 2B Marcus Lemon led off the third with a home run to take a 3-1 lead but the Saltdogs tied things back up in the bottom of the frame when CF Matty Johnson singled home LF Brandon Jacobs and 2B Cesar Valera.
The T-Bones scored the game winning run when 1B/LF Kyle Petty – who was 4-for-4 on the day – scored as SS Eddie Newton reached base with a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth inning.
St. Paul 6, Sioux City 3 — Box Score
The St. Paul Saints never trailed on their way to claiming the series finale with the Sioux City Explorers 6-3.
SS Nate Hanson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first to give the Saints a 1-0 lead and LF Anthony Gallas added a two-run shot in the fourth to push that lead to 3-0. In the sixth, CF Tim Colwell doubled in a run and then scored when C Maxx Garrett singled in the next at-bat. Gallas pushed across his third RBI in the seventh with a sac fly in the seventh. Starting pitcher Mark Hamburger (7-1) earned the win for throwing 6.2 innings and scattering 10 hits while giving up three runs.
For the Explorers, four different batters each had two-hit games including 1B Brian Fortier who had two RBI. RF LeVon Washington had the Explorers’ other RBI.
