HERNANDEZ GARNERS AMERICAN ASSOCIATION PITCHER OF THE MONTH HONORS

DURHAM, NC – When Nick Hernandez (pictured) took the mound in August, a victory for the Winnipeg Goldeyes was a foregone conclusion. The left-hander won every single start in the final month of the season and was named the Rawlings Pitcher of the Month. Hernandez was selected by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Associaiton.

Hernandez made six starts for Winnipeg in August and went 6-0. During that span, the lefty only allowed 10 runs for an August ERA of 2.18. Hernandez also made it through the seventh inning in four of his six outings.

It is hard to pin down which starts were Hernandez’s best in the last month of the season because he held his opponents scoreless on three separate occasions. On August 6, 17 and 22, the southpaw pitched six shutout innings. Two of those starts, August 6 at Sioux City and August 22 against Sioux Falls, register as complete game shutouts, as they were each part of doubleheaders. Hernandez struck out an August-high seven men in the latter start.
