RAILCATS HOLD OFF BLASTERS IN NAIL-BITER IN GARY

Gary SouthShore 7, Joplin 6- Box

The RailCats scored all seven runs in the first five innings and withstood a Blasters rally to take a 7-6 win at US Steel Yard on Sunday afternoon. Four RailCats had two-hit games – RF Masato Fukae, 3B Jose Sermo, 2B Elbert Devarie and SS Jarred Mederos. Additionally, DH Brennan Metzger drove in two for the RailCats.

RHP Karl Triana kept the Blasters at bay over six innings, striking out seven while scattering six hits and a walk. RHP Alex Gunn worked 1.1 innings to close out the game for Gary SouthShore, picking up the save.

Joplin was buoyed by LF Willie Cabrera, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI.

Wichita 14, Fargo-Moorhead 4- Box

A pair of five-run innings propelled the Wingnuts to a 14-4 victory over the RedHawks on Sunday afternoon. CF Harrison Kain recorded a two-RBI single in the five-run fourth, and drove in another run by drawing a hit by pitch in the five-run eighth. Kain finished the day 4-for-5 with four total RBI and three runs scored. Additionally, SS Leo Vargas went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. 1B Dustin Geiger and LF TJ Mittelstaedt also had two-RBI games for the Wingnuts.

On the mound, RHP Jon Link struck out seven in seven innings of work to earn the win for Wichita.

Fargo-Moorhead C Luke Bailey hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Sioux City 8, Sioux Falls 5- Box

The Explorers got off to a fast start on Sunday, plating six runs over the game’s first three innings and holding on for an 8-5 victory over the Canaries. 2B Noah Perio opened the three-run first’s scoring with an RBI single, and 3B Tommy Mendonca drove him home on an RBI double. Mendonca would score on a RBI single by 1B Jarek Cunningham.

The duo of Mendonca and Cunningham would play a major factor in the Sioux City offense for the remainder of the day, as both finished 3-for-4. Cunningham collected another RBI on a double to score Mendonca in the seventh.

On the mound, RHP Ryan Zimmerman struck out six batters in 5.2 innings, earning the win.

For the Canaries, seven different players had one hit apiece, while three different players drove in a run each.

Laredo 2, Texas 1- Box

The Lemurs escaped AirHog Stadium by the skin of their teeth for the second day in a row, beating the AirHogs by a 2-1 final. DH Travis Denker broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth with an RBI groundout, and RF Denis Phipps followed with an RBI double to score LF Ty Morrison. Phipps had two of Laredo’s three hits in the contest. C KJ Alexander of Texas halved the Laredo lead in the ninth with an RBI single, but the Lemurs wiggled out of trouble.

RHP Ryan Beckman worked 8.1 innings for Laredo, allowing only the one unearned run and striking out eight in the victory. RHP Jeff Inman recorded the final out to preserve the win and earn a save.

Alexander finished 2-for-4 for Texas.

Winnipeg 4, Lincoln 2- Box

The Goldeyes rode the momentum of a three-run third inning to a 4-2 win in Lincoln on Sunday. RF Josh Romanski got Winnipeg on the board with a sacrifice fly, and DH David Rohm drove in two more on a two-RBI single. C Tanner Murphy plated an insurance run on an eighth-inning ground rule double. Rohm, SS Maikol Gonzalez, and 1B Jacob Rogers had two hits apiece for the Goldeyes in the win.

LHP Kyle Anderson was dominant for Winnipeg, striking out four over seven shutout innings in which he allowed just two hits.

DH Rene Leveret hit a two-run home run for Lincoln in the ninth inning.
