RECORD-HIGH 16 AA ALUMNI IN MLB IN 2014

16 American Association alumni spent time on Major League Baseball rosters in 2014, up from 10 in 2013 and 7 in 2012.

  • RHP Aaron Crow (Fort Worth 2008-09) spent his fourth season in the Kansas City bullpen, pitching in 67 games and going 6-1 with a 4.12 ERA.
  • RHP Dane De La Rosa (El Paso 2009) was injured most of the season, but made three relief appearances for the Los Angeles Angels.
  • RHP Julio DePaula (St. Paul 2012) was called up to Baltimore on July 7, but was returned to the minors before pitching in a game.
  • RHP John Holdzkom (Sioux City 2013, Amarillo 2013-14) had a swift rise through the Pirates’ system after being purchased by Pittsburgh in June. After pitching in nine games out of the bullpen for the big-league club in September, Holdzkom also appeared in the N.L. Wild Card game.
  • RHP Luke Hochevar (Fort Worth 2006) spent the season on Kansas City’s disabled list recovering from Tommy John surgery.
  • RHP Brandon Kintzler (St. Paul 2009) was once again excellent out of the Milwaukee bullpen in his fifth big-league season, going 3-3 with a 3.24 ERA in 64 games.
  • LHP Kris Johnson (Kansas City 2011) was called up to the majors on two separate occasions, making three starts for Minnesota and going 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA.
  • RHP Chris Martin (Grand Prairie 2010) made his MLB debut in April and pitched in 16 games in relief for Colorado.
  • LHP James Paxton (Grand Prairie 2010) returned in August from injury and was one of the Mariners’ most consistent starters, assembling a 6-4 record and a 3.04 ERA in 13 outings.
  • OF David Peralta (Wichita 2012, Amarillo 2013) had an outstanding rookie campaign, hitting .286 with eight home runs and 36 RBI in 88 games for Arizona.
  • RHP Chaz Roe (Laredo 2012) made three appearances down the stretch run for the New York Yankees after his contract was purchased from the Miami Marlins’ organization in September.
  • RHP Tanner Scheppers (St. Paul 2009) was the Opening Day starter for the Texas Rangers, but went on the disabled list in June with elbow problems and spent the rest of the season there.
  • RHP Max Scherzer (Fort Worth 2006) had another season as one of the American League’s top starters, going 18-5 with a 3.15 ERA and 252 strikeouts in 220.1 innings pitched for Central Division champion Detroit.
  • RHP Bo Schultz (Grand Prairie 2011) began his second big-league season on Arizona’s Opening Day roster, and also had a stint with the Diamondbacks in June.
  • LHP Caleb Thielbar (St. Paul 2011) was a workhorse out of the Minnesota bullpen in his second year in the bigs, going 2-1 with a 3.40 ERA in 54 relief appearances.
  • LHP Ian Thomas (Winnipeg 2009-11) started the year on Atlanta’s Opening Day roster, and went 1-2 with a 4.22 ERA in 16 relief appearances for the Braves.
