July 24 Afternoon Recap
Fargo-Moorhead 7, Sioux City 1 – Box
Fargo-Moorhead finished off the three game sweep of Sioux City as they downed the Explorers by a 7-1 score. RedHawks SS Mike Gilmartin led the way offensively going 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Fargo-Moorhead C Luke Bailey added a home run and two RBI while 3B Josh Mazzola plated two runs and drove in one in a 1-for-3 day. RedHawks starting pitcher Matt Snyder threw 5 1/3 innings and collected his first win of the season. Snyder allowed an earned run on two hits with three strikeouts. For Sioux City in defeat, SS Nate Samson went 1-for-4 and drove in the team’s only run of the contest.
Wichita 10, Joplin 2 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts tallied four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead and would never look back en route to a 10-2 win over the Joplin Blasters. Wichita collected 14 hits in the contest with three batters having multi-hit games. Wingnuts 1B Matt Chavez went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. Wichita 3B Zack Cox added three hits, including a home run, with two runs scored and two RBI while CF T.J. Mittelstaedt plated three runs in a 4-for-5 day. Wingnuts starting pitcher Eddie Medina received plenty of run support in nabbing his fourth victory of the season. Medina tossed six innings allowing two earned runs on five hits.
Kansas City 3, Winnipeg 1 – Box
Kansas City starting pitcher Mike Kickham tossed seven superb innings in leading the T-Bones to a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Kickham gave up an earned run on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts. The southpaw nabbed the win and is now 2-1 on the season. Offensively for Kansas City, 1B Jake Blackwood led the way going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI. T-Bones CF Tyler Massey plated the other run in a 1-for-3 day while SS Vladimir Frias and C Brian Erie each drove in a run. Shortstop Maikol Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a RBI in the loss for Winnipeg.
