SHIELDS LEADS SAINTS TO VICTORY OVER REDHAWKS

St. Paul 4, Fargo-Moorhead 2Box 

A four-run third inning was all the Saints would need en route to victory on Wednesday evening. The first two runs of the inning scored on an error with C Dwight Childs trying to lay down a sacrifice bunt. With SS Jared McDonald at the plate, a wild pitch scored Childs. 1B Henry Wrigley capped off the inning with an RBI single.

The Saints only had three hits all night, but still pulled out the win. Fargo only had three hits of their own. DH Sawyer Carroll had a double and an RBI.

RHP Jeff Shields (pictured) struck out five and allowed only a single unearned run in eight innings for the Saints. The save went to RHP Dan Sattler, who survived an adventurous ninth with three RedHawks reaching base.

Fargo-Moorhead 10, St. Paul 5 (Completion of suspended game from 7/1)Box

The RedHawks jumped out to a quick lead and went on to take a road win over the Saints. CF Nic Jackson hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning, scoring 1B CJ Retherford and 3B Ron Bourquin. In the fourth, Bourquin hit a three-run shot of his own. SS Zach Penprase also drove in two runs in the inning with a two-RBI double. Penprase followed with an RBI single in the fifth. 2B Brandon Newton hit an RBI single in the eighth for the final run of the game for Fargo.

C Petey Paramore was 3-for-5 for Fargo, and Penprase, Bourquin, Newton and LF Sawyer Caroll had two hits each. DH Henry Wrigley was 3-for-5 for St. Paul. CF Evan Bigley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. St. Paul had 16 hits in the losing effort.

RHP Brian Ernst picked up the win for Fargo, going six innings in his start. Ernst struck out five Saints.

Winnipeg 7, Kansas City 5Box 

Trailing 4-1 at the midpoint of the game, the Goldeyes mounted a comeback to defeat the T-Bones at Shaw Park. RF Donnie Webb hit a sacrifice fly and C Luis Alen notched an RBI single in the fifth to trim the lead to 4-3. Another sacrifice fly, this one from LF Ray Sadler, tied the game in the sixth. The Goldeyes saw SS Tyler Kuhn single home two runs in the seventh to snare the lead, and an RBI double from 3B Josh Mazzola provided some insurance for the Goldeyes.

1B Casey Haerther was 3-for-5 on the night, while Kuhn, Alen and CF Reggie Abercrombie had two hits each.

LHP Gabe Aguilar earned the win in relief, while RHP Chris Kissock saved his 10th game.

Amarillo 5, Wichita 3Box 

The visiting Sox scored five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to beat the Wingnuts. RF Cory Patton and 3B Kyle Bellows had RBIs in the seventh, as Patton hit a single and Bellows had a sacrifice fly. Patton hit another single in the eighth to tie the game, and 1B Joe Weik scored on an error by the catcher to take the lead. A Bellows single gave Amarillo the insurance they needed.

Weik, Patton and C Jeff Farnham had two hits each for Amarillo. CF Brent Clevelen was 2-for-4 for Wichita.

RHP Adam Maxon earned the win in relief. RHP Erik Draxton saved his sixth game with a strikeout in the ninth.  

Gary SouthShore 9, Sioux Falls 3Box 

Behind nine hits from the bottom three hitters in the RailCats order, Gary took a road win against the Canaries. LF Josh Romanski, SS Ryan Brockett and CF Drew Muren were all 3-for-5 in the game. All three players had a home run in the game, and Brockett’s two RBIs led the way for Gary. The RailCats scored three runs in both the second and fourth innings in the win.

1B A.J. Kirby-Jones and 2B Sam Lind both had two hits each for Sioux Falls. The winning pitcher in the game was RHP Stephen Hiscock, who struck out six in seven innings.

Laredo 6, Lincoln 5Box

The Lemurs got single hits from six different players in their starting lineup and beat the Saltdogs at home. 2B Travis Denker opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, and C Carlos Ramirez added a two-RBI double in the fourth. He was immediately followed by 3B Harrison Kain, who hit an RBI single. Laredo’s last run came in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by RF Denis Phipps.

DH Ian Gac and 3B Kevin Howard had two hits each for Lincoln. RHP Tyler Pearson struck out four in seven innings for the win for Laredo, and RHP Chad Povich saved the game.
