ST. PAUL OUTLASTS AMARILLO IN 11 INNINGS

St. Paul 8, Amarillo 4 ( 11 innings) Box

The Saints outlasted the Thunderheads 8-4 in extra innings. After a sacrifice fly, Amarillo’s 1B Geraldo Valentin increased the lead to 2-0 in the first inning with a solo home run. In the fourth inning, the Saints tied the score at 2-2 after an RBI-single by LF Willie Argo and an RBI-double by 1B Ian Gac.

After loading the bases with one out in the top of the sixth, C Vince DiFazio hit an RBI-single to help St. Paul take a 3-2 lead. Amarillo scored in the eighth to make it 3-3, but Saints regained the lead in the ninth after Gac hit an RBI-double. But the Thunderheads wouldn’t go away – C Jordan Guida hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 4-4.

In the top of the 11th, the Saints surged ahead by knocking in four runs, holding off Amarillo’s comeback.

 

Gary SouthShore 3, Lincoln 2 Box

The Gary SouthShore RailCats came from behind to beat the Lincoln Saltdogs Thursday night, 3-2. The Saltdogs started quickly in the first inning with an RBI-single from 3B Eddie Young and a sacrifice fly from 1B CJ Ziegler. The RailCats responded in the top of the second inning with an RBI-groundout from 1B Michael Schroeder to make the score 2-1.

The RailCats tied the game at 2-2 after having bases loaded when SS Ryan Brockett hit a sacrifice fly to left field. And in the top of the ninth, Gary SouthShore moved ahead 3-2 when Schroeder scored on an error by the Saltdog’s pitcher.

Saltdogs LHP Moises Melendez went 5 innings, gave up one earned run, and struck-out five batters. RailCats RHP Travis McGee went six innings, gave up five hits and struck-out two batters.

 

 

Sioux City 3, Kansas City 1  – Box

With the help of six hits, the Sioux City Explorers swept the Kansas City T-Bones 3-1 on Thursday. The Explorers took a 1-0 advantage in the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from 1B Rene Tosoni and added another run in the second inning after an RBI-groundout by C Matt Koch.

The T-Bones responded in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run by 1B Joe Rapp. The Explorers increased its lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning when SS Noah Perio scored off an error by the third baseman.

In the bottom of the eighth, the T-Bones were threatening with a man on first and second with no outs but could not score any runs. Kansas City had six hits in the game with one error.

 

 

 Wichita 4, Winnipeg 1 Box

Wichita had nine hits in the game and used the offense to beat Winnipeg 4-1, Thursday. In the top of the first inning, the Goldeyes made the score 1-0 after a home run from 1B Casey Haerther – the first home run of the season for Winnipeg.  Wichita had bases loaded with 2 outs in the bottom of the first, but couldn’t score. However, the Wingnuts were able to tie the score in the second inning with an RBI-single from 2B Luis Hernandez.

Then, the Wingnuts took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after 3B TJ Mittelstaedt hit an RBI-double and C John Nester hit an RBI-single.  Wichita added to its lead in the eighth inning when Hernandez hit an RBI-double.

Winnipeg had nine hits in the game, led by Haerther who went 3-4, with one RBI.

 

 

 Sioux Falls 4, Quebec 1 Box

The Sioux Fall Canaries of the American Association got by Quebec of the Can-Am League 4-1 thanks to a three run sixth inning. In the top of the second inning, Quebec grabbed a 1-0 lead after an RBI-single by DH Yuniesky Gurriel. The Canaries answered with one run in the bottom of the fourth after 1B David Bergin scored on a wild pitch.

Bergin helped Sioux Falls take a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after hitting a two-RBI double.  Bergin then scored after C Richard Stock knocked an RBI-groundout.

The Canaries had six hits in the game, led by Bergin who went 2-4 with two RBI. Sioux Falls RHP Jeremy Strawn went six innings and gave up one run.  The Capitales had nine hits in the game with two errors.
