DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers INF Rene Tosoni (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 27.
Tosoni had hits in all seven Sioux City games this week, as he batted .500 (15-for-30) over the course of the week. Five of the games were multi-hit games for Tosoni, who drove in seven this week. On Monday, he was 2-for-5 with his only home run of the week along with two RBI in a 9-7 loss to the Gary SouthShore RailCats. In a 5-4 win on Wednesday, Tosoni was 2-for-3 with two RBI. The Toronto native, who lives now in Gilbert, Arizona, closed out the Gary series with a 3-for-5 game Thursday. He had a double, an RBI and two runs scored in the game. Tosoni collected four hits in an 8-6 loss at the Sioux Falls Canaries on Saturday. He was a home run shy of the cycle in the game and also drove in a run. The week ended with a 2-for-5 game in a 10-9 win on Sunday for Tosoni and the X’s.
In 69 games, Tosoni is hitting .287 with 20 doubles, three triples and six home runs. He has driven in 39 runners for Sioux City.
The American Association season pauses for two days for the All-Star Game in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The game will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Central time at Shaw Park, home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
