WEIK NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

DURHAM, NC – Joe Weik (pictured) has been exceptional for Amarillo in his first season in the American Association. In fact, no rookie has fared better. The Sox first baseman/outfielder has been named the American Association Rookie of the Year for 2013

Weik has been one of the most productive players in the league and the best run-producer for his team. The TCU product finished the regular season third in the American Association with 81 RBI. He has also shown consistency at the plate with a .327 batting average, good for 10th in the league. Weik’s 32 doubles also rank favorably. The league’s top rookie is second on the Sox in the doubles department and tied for fourth in the American Association.

The Rookie of the Year also ended the season on a tear. In Amarillo’s last seven games, Weik was 11-for-31 (.355) at the plate. His last hit of the year was a two-run home run in the first inning of the Sox season finale. Weik also doubled twice and drove in seven runs during the season’s final week.
