CLAGGETT, TRIPP LEAD FIRST-PLACE PERTH

As the Australian Baseball League nears its postseason, a number of American Association players continue to make their mark in the league.

– The league’s top club, the Perth Heat, have been led by St. Paul OF Brandon Tripp. (pictured, right) The two-time Player of the Week (October 31-November 3 and December 27-30) leads the ABL with 37 RBI, is second with a .329 average and nine home runs, and is third with 15 doubles.

– Tripp’s teammate on both the Heat and the Saints, RHP Anthony Claggett (pictured, left), is eighth in the league with a 2.89 ERA, and has given up just two earned runs in his last 17 innings pitched.

– Canberra’s Brian Grening (Gary 2011, Kansas City 2011-12) is currently leading the league with 70 strikeouts, including 28 K’s in his last 21.1 innings of work. Also on Canberra, Ethan Cole (Kansas City 2013) is tied with Grening for the team lead with five wins, while¬†Sean Toler¬†(Kansas City 2012-13) is second in the league with ten saves.

– Brisbane’s Andrew Aizenstadt (Wichita 2012-13) has been busy for the Brisbane Bandits; the righthander has appeared in 16 games, tied for second-most in the league, to go along with a 2-4 record and a 3.55 ERA.

– Melbourne RHP Freddy Flores (El Paso 2012, Amarillo 2013) went 3-3 with a 3.88 ERA in a variety of roles for the Aces, starting three games and appearing as a reliever in 17 games.
